Shipwrecks in Dardanelles

Shipwrecks in Dardanelles

There are countless shipwrecks in the Dardanelles. Some of these are from the First World War and some are shipwrecks caused by ship collisions. War wrecks are mostly concentrated at the Aegean exit of the strait and some are in the central parts of the strait where ship traffic is heavy. Of the ships that sank in collision, those that sank very fast were buried in the middle waters, while those that sank slowly directed themselves to a shallow area and tried to settle on the shore. However, since there were few shallows in many parts of the strait, most of the ships sank to 20-30 meters before reaching the shore.
